2019 is here already! I know 2018 seemed to go by in a flash! For those of you who are considering a remodel or a redecorate, we have compiled a list of the best new – and here to stay – trends for 2019 decor!
GO GREEN (BIOPHILIC)
In 2019 décor trends, the focus is moving from tech obsessed décor to fresh, natural looks and materials such as wood floors, stone, concrete and granite. It’s all about bringing the outside IN. Daylight and plant life are two big aspects of this growing trend. These elements will help bring a serene ambiance to any space. How do I add some natural elements to my home?
- Incorporate plants with patterned leaves (even a fake plant will do!)
- Update your accent pieces such as lights, pulls and baskets with brass, granite and wicker options.
- Incorporate nature sounds. A water feature is a great idea, but if that wont work, go for a recording of sounds such as bird calls, waterfalls, rain etc.
- Open those blinds and curtains! Let the sunshine in! Not only will this help incorporate this natural element, it will help your plants and provide you with a healthy dose of vitamin D!
THE COLOR OF THE YEAR
The Pantone color of the year for 2019 decor is Living Coral. This is a bright, fun color that can be used in a multitude of ways. Accent walls, accessories, art, area rugs… this color really brings a POP to any space! Not only that, but it works well in most rooms and pairs nicely with a plethora of other color palettes.FEMININE TONES
If you think ‘Rose Gold’ was big last year, just you wait – it’s not going anywhere in 2019! Soft, feminine tones and elegant classy spaces are going to be taking over. Think blush, dusty pink and bronze.Metallics have been on trend for the last couple years, but we see Rose Gold taking over in the home this year. A touch of gold or copper instantly adds a touch of class to any room. You can go all out with an accent wall, or just add a bit of spray paint to a thrifted item!
FLORAL FABRICS AND WALLPAPERS
This traditional pattern will be THE pattern to use in 2019 décor. While this isn’t a brand new idea, we will start to see floral fabrics in a whole new light. Exaggerated proportions and contrasting colors are a major switch decorators are expecting to see this year.RICH JEWEL TONES WITH AN EDGE
Deep, rich jewel tones with an edge are expected to make a big splash for 2019. Bold Blues, rich hunter and emerald green, and dark teal are all ready to takeover the décor in your home. Layer living rooms, dining rooms and bedrooms with paint, accessories, rugs and fabrics in these bright dramatic colors Pair against a white backdrop for an even more dramatic look.CONCRETE ACCENTS
Some may wonder why concrete has left the construction zone, yet 2019 will be the year it steps into many homes decor. Providing a crisp, clean look that’s easy to compliment – Concrete isn’t just for countertops. Geometric concrete tiles will become increasingly popular and pair two of next year’s hottest design trends into one stylish piece.MATTE BLACK KITCHENS AND BATHS
Last year we saw a huge focus on making your bathroom space ‘spa-like’ and relaxing. This year we are staying with that same trend. it’s all about bold, dark, sultry bathroom designs that evoke an indulgent high-end experience, and nothing creates a sense of drama better than black! We first noticed this hot trend with beauty products and customized cars. For 2019 décor you can expect to see bold, high contrast designs as black matte moves from fashion and beauty to homewares and interiors. Matte finishes lend a more relaxed, slightly futuristic appeal to your space, without coming across as overly loud (and let’s face it – it looks pretty cool, too).
Experts say this trend is here to stay for a long while.
LIGHT WOOD FLOORS
Dark rustic floors may have been all the rage in the past, but this year light colored floors are making a comeback! This ties in with the biophilic look we discussed earlier. Homeowners have a growing desire for more open, light spaces. Birch, beachy white and oak are two top selling floor options. They reflect more light and crate a casual or luxurious feel in any space.BOLDLY PATTERNED BACKSPLASHES
For the kitchens in 2019 – expect to see a pop of color in these spaces! Simple kitchens are a thing of the past. People are incorporating bolder color choices and graphic tile designs. What better way to add your own touch than with a bright backsplash? Stand out and make an impact, without making it look overly busy by incorporating a tile backsplash into your design. They are easy to have installed, add value to your home and the best part – don’t require any major overhaul to have completed!BUCKET SINKS
Also known as Trough sinks, bucket sink joins the list of vintage design trends that are predicted to make a massive comeback in 2019. Farm-house inspired, these pans are family friendly and will add personality and a touch a nostalgia to any kitchen or bathroom.WARMER & DARKER COUNTERTOPS
While Marble will always be a classic choice, for 2019 décor in your kitchens and baths, expect to see the focus switch to darker tones and warmer-based stones instead of stark whites and grays.Dark countertops can make any kitchen or bathroom space feel sophisticated. They pair well with light floors and light cabinets, adding an element of warmth to the space without making it feel dark and closed in (as an added bonus for all those moms out there – they hide dirt really well!).
COLORED CABINETS
The trend of moving away from all white cabinetry is continuing in 2019. People are loving the incorporation of colored cabinets in the kitchen. Consider making a statement and creating a mood with cabinetry in black and colors like deep or grey-washed blues and greens. Pair with fixtures and hardware in brass and other contrasting metals (rose gold, maybe?)GREEN EVERYTHING
Even though it’s not the ‘color of the year’, you can expect to see green everywhere in 2019. We’re talking ALL the shades – from grass green to teal. Think rugs, paintings, throw pillows and more! This isn’t just for paint colors and patterns – incorporate the biophilic trend by decorating with lots of live greenery throughout the home. We really like containers with matte finishes or raw finishes like concrete. Small trees and plants give shape and texture and add life to a room. Crowd a front window with them or use them in large groups rather than in single plants dotted around.
